How to use the Android signal benchmark as an MNO (mobile network operator) field benchmark and site-visit toolkit: LTE/5G logging (RSRP, RSRQ, SINR), speed tests, Sites surveys, and the web dashboard.

MNO field benchmark — LTE/5G, RSRP and RSRQ

SigBench is an app for MNO benchmark work: while logging is on, it records LTE and 5G radio quality from the phone — RSRP (strength), RSRQ (quality), SINR, serving-cell IDs, band, and operator (PLMN) — each with a location. Those samples are the basis of MNO quality comparison on the dashboard (operator scorecards and hex maps).

Start an RF capture

  1. Install SigBench and accept the consent screen. Grant Location (preferably “Allow all the time” for background logging), Phone (cell info), and Notifications.
  2. Open the Map tab → tap Start. A notification shows logging is active.
  3. Walk or drive. The trail is coloured by RSRP. Use Live for serving-cell and RF readouts.
  4. Tap Sync when you have data connectivity. Stop anytime from Map. Pending samples queue on the phone.

Speed tests

  1. Open Speed. Choose Cellular (feeds the MNO / operator benchmark) or Wi‑Fi (dashboard Broadband tab).
  2. For broadband, pick or enter the ISP when prompted.
  3. Run download, upload, and ping. Results upload with your other measurements.

There is also a browser broadband speed test on this site — no app required.

Sites — field surveys

The Sites tab is separate from RF logging. Checklists, sketches, and photos stay on the device — they are not uploaded with the MNO benchmark stream. Share them via ZIP, PDF, or your gallery.

  1. Under My sites (KML / CSV / Excel) tap Import. Point files only for KML; spreadsheet rows need a name plus latitude/longitude.
  2. Create or import a checklist (one item per row in column A). Set your surveyor profile once so folders auto-fill name/contact.
  3. Open a site folder: tick items, add notes, attach proof photos or sketches (four colours, undo/clear). Photos get EXIF GPS when available.
  4. Export ZIP (photos + filled CSV) or Report (PDF) for the customer.

Downloadable sample files

These match what the Android app accepts. Download, then Sites → Import (or share the file into SigBench).

Checklist (CSV / XLSX)

Column A, one item per row. Optional header: item, checklist, task, name, or label.

Sites (CSV / Excel)

Headers: name / site / id + lat + lon (or a combined lat/lon column). Bad rows are skipped with a count. Old .xls should be saved as .xlsx or CSV. Re-importing the same filename replaces that site group.

Web dashboard

Pair the phone from Stats (pairing code) so RF logs appear on the web. The dashboard’s Operator benchmark is the MNO quality comparison view: country → ranking by score, SINR, RSRP, RSRQ, download, and sample volume. Coverage maps and Broadband (Wi‑Fi/ISP tests) are separate tabs. Dashboard “suggested sites” from crowdsourced RF is not the same as the Android Sites survey tab.

FAQ

How do I get the app?

Install from Google Play when you can — updates then arrive automatically. If Play isn’t on the phone, sideload the APK from the homepage (SHA-256 is shown next to the download).

Why isn’t SigBench available on iOS?

SigBench is built for Android (Kotlin/Compose). The field RF metrics it logs — RSRP, RSRQ, cell identity, neighbour cells, and related LTE/5G survey data — come from Android telephony APIs. iOS does not expose equivalent radio or cell measurement APIs to third-party App Store apps, so an iPhone port cannot offer the same MNO / LTE / 5G survey features. A native iOS app would be a separate product and still could not match Android radio logging. On iPhone you can run the browser speed test today — no app needed.
