SigBench Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information the SigBench Android app (package com.sifi.app) and the SigBench service collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. SigBench is a crowdsourced mobile-network benchmarking app: with your permission it measures mobile signal, network quality, and speed as you go about your day, and turns those measurements into coverage maps and operator benchmarks. By using SigBench you agree to this policy.

1. Who we are

SigBench (“we”, “us”) operates the SigBench app and website (sigbench.com). For any privacy question or request, contact us at support@sigbench.com.

2. Information we collect

We only collect the following while you are actively using the app, and — for continuous logging — only while you have turned capture on (shown by an ongoing notification):

Category	What it includes	Why
Location	Approximate and precise location of each measurement (network-based or GPS), with its accuracy and, when available, altitude.	Every signal or speed measurement must be tied to a place to build coverage maps.
Network & radio measurements	Signal strength and quality (e.g. RSRP, RSRQ, SINR), serving and neighbouring cell identifiers, radio technology, frequency band, and operator codes (PLMN). Connection type and, where available, Wi-Fi network name to estimate the connection provider.	These are the core measurements SigBench exists to collect.
Speed & call-quality events	Results of speed tests you run (timestamp, duration, throughput) and basic call events (time, duration, whether a call dropped). We do not collect phone numbers, contacts, or any call or message content.	To benchmark real-world network performance and reliability.
Survey content	Photos and sketches you choose to capture in the survey tools, geotagged with the location and compass direction, plus any notes and checklist values you enter.	To let you document sites and generate the reports you export.
Files you import	KML/KMZ site files and CSV/XLSX checklists you open in the app.	Processed on your device to show your own sites and checklists.
Device & technical data	Device model, Android version, and a random, app-generated install identifier plus a per-device access token. No name, email, IMEI, phone number, or advertising ID.	To operate the service, secure the connection, and de-duplicate measurements.
Account (optional)	If you sign in to the web dashboard, the email address you use to sign in.	Only if you choose to create a dashboard account; the app works without one.

3. Permissions we request

• Location (precise & approximate) — to tag each measurement. Collected via a user-started foreground service, only while logging is on. We do not access your location in the background when logging is off.
• Phone state — to read cellular signal and cell/network identifiers. We do not read your phone number, call log, or contacts.
• Camera — only when you take a survey photo.
• Notifications — to show the ongoing “logging is on” notification.
• Network / Wi-Fi state — to detect connection type and quality for speed tests.

4. How we use your information

• Build street-level coverage maps and operator benchmarks.
• Estimate cell-site locations and identify where networks perform poorly.
• Provide app features you use (live view, speed tests, site surveys, reports).
• Operate, secure, debug, and improve the service.

5. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal data or raw measurements. We share:

• Aggregated, anonymised statistics — coverage maps and benchmarks that contain no name, email, phone number, or device identifier and cannot be traced back to you — may be shared with mobile network operators and tower/infrastructure companies to help them plan and improve networks.
• Service providers — hosting and database providers that store data on our behalf under confidentiality obligations.
• Legal — if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or the service.

6. Data retention

Identifiable measurements tied to your device are retained while they are useful for the service and then deleted or further anonymised. Aggregated, non-identifying statistics that are already part of coverage maps and benchmarks may be kept indefinitely, as they cannot be linked back to you. You can request deletion at any time (see below).

7. Security

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and stored on access-controlled servers. Each install uses its own per-device token rather than a shared key. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

8. Your choices and controls

• Stop collecting — turn logging off in the app at any time; measurement collection stops immediately.
• Permissions — you can revoke location, camera, or other permissions in Android Settings; related features will stop working.
• Remove local data — uninstall the app to remove data stored on your device.
• Delete your data / account — request deletion of your account and identifiable data at sigbench.com/delete-account or by emailing support@sigbench.com.

9. Children

SigBench is not directed to children and is not intended for use by anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

10. International users

Your information may be processed and stored on servers located in countries other than your own. Where we transfer data, we take steps to protect it consistent with this policy.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, through an in-app notice. Continued use of SigBench after an update means you accept the revised policy.
